The Joys of US TV

Well, well, well!!!

It is really strange what you can learn on US TV.

We have been without standard TV for a while. We haven't scene a commercial in a year. A good thing, you say?

The satellite TV here is the Spanish feed, about 95% Spanish without commercials. The commercial time is filled with clips of the future programing. We saw the same clips over and over for a year. You get really tired of that for sure.

I will admit that we have not been numbed by the constant barrage of commercials for a while.

It is absolutely amazing what they try to slip past the public.

I saw a commercial that that suggested that Taco Bell is good food for a diet plan...to loose weight...to slim down!!!

Don't they have any shame?

Ya, that's it, I'm going to run right down to Taco Bell to slim down...and on the way I will pass the gym, Whole Foods, the health food store and Overeaters Anonymous.

A friend of mine, with a marketing degree, says that marketers are professional liars. I believe he is right.

The audacity of saying that Taco Bell, the land of beans and corn, is remotely close to a weight loss program is ludicrous!

How in the hell can anyone suggest that Taco Bell is appropriate for losing weight? Oh, I know, you juggle the calories on a few select items and get the math to work, but P-L-E-A-S-E!!!!

And, if this message is scene enough, those numbed by the repetition, will believe it. Of course, as the weight doesn't come off, they will have to go more often, eat more to get things going...and it goes on and on.

Tricky, huh?

Well...just a thought from a foreign perspective on the state of the US.

Ahhhhh, America, good ole USA - home of sugar-free butter and fat free sugar - everything is good for your diet! Well, I guess that is why we call it "home SWEET home" - although salty snacks are good too! TV, as Daniel says, is a waste of time. and for me, is addictive and discombobulating. Like Taco Bell. one may be okay, but the tendency is always to buy 5. As Werner said, 'it's not what you eat that makes You fat - it's how MUCH you eat that makes you fat! and TB has always made sure their ingredients trigger to eat more! (that's my excuse, anyhow). I am in India, now, in Lucknow at Papaji Satsang Bhavan, where the food is All Organic, Vegetarian, and absolutely delicious. The finest salad ingredients I thing that I have ever tasted... YUM.

(have to go, as all this talk about food reminds me it's breakfast time!)

I envy you your India trip! I'm sure Yella is jealous too, especially now that you are in Luchnow.

The US is the Land of Consumption. How did we develop this sooo welll. It's like the Holy Grail of society. It is good to get out of the country so you can see the forest through the trees!

Well, I know I did my part in the development, at least in the consumption areas of booze, drugs, sex, and food. If the Taliban had recruited such dedicated warriors as me, we would already be Islamic...

and Yes, Tom, it is a Gift we have to be able to see ourselves (as long as it is perceived to be ourself!)

It is diet food, I ate a TB a few years ago and lost 10 pounds that same night. :-0

Tom, we are definitely coming to Panama so Nate can attend the Habla Ya school. Is July a good month to visit? I will be chatting with you about this more.
